Timber Cruisers, Tallypersons


Timber Cruisers

Responsibilities

Lead a 2 person cruise party to successfully bush navigate, gather data and compile results to meet inventory specifications and production targets. Work safely. Responsibly use company equipment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Completed or enrolled in a recognized forestry technical or Bachelor of Science program.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and dependable. Willingness to work in adverse weather.
  • Sufficient skill in map, air photo, compass and GPS use to navigate confidently and correctly.
  • Sufficient skill with computers, software and hand held PDAs.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • ATV experience and valid pleasure craft operator's license are assets.

Tallypersons

Responsibilities

Provide data recording, measurement and equipment support for the cruise party under direction of the Cruiser. Work safely. Responsibly use company equipment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and dependable. Willingness to work in adverse weather.
  • Sufficient skill with computers, software and hand held PDAs.
  • Accuracy in data collection and record keeping.
  • Some skill in map, air photo, compass and GPS use.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record is an asset.
  • Enrolled in first year of a recognized forestry technical or Bachelor of Science program is an asset.
  • ATV experience and valid pleasure craft operator's license are assets.

These challenging positions offer excellent experience at forest surveys and opportunity to gain knowledge in boreal forest conditions. Most work is in a camp setting on a 10 days on 4 days off schedule. Small amount of remote canoe and fly in work is necessary. Successful candidates should be physically fit. Possess a first aid certificate. Training in cruising procedures including ecosite and soils identification will be provided.

These are 3 and 6 month contract positions beginning in early June
