Plant Operations Superintendent


Job Description

This position is responsible for coordinating all plant operations and activities for a manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all standards, policies & regulations for the safe, environmentally sound production of a quality product. Functions are office and plant based, and include:

  • Lead, plan and participate in process improvement, cost reductions and continuous improvement projects as part of the site business plan.
  • Accountable for Supervisors and Employees working safely.
  • Oversee daily production operations and systems to ensure production meets delivery schedules.
  • Executes manufacturing components of the site business plan for the plant.
  • Establish, implement and support systems that create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for production operations.
  • Ensure and maintain established customer focus for employees, effectively maintain positive relationships with key strategic external customers.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of mill process and equipment, have workable knowledge of industry technological developments and best practices.
  • Network with vendors, customers and key functional group managers.
  • Ensure product quality meets established standards using statistical based methods for decision making.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, training, performance management, setting daily work schedules, and providing guidance. Includes staff and self-development, as well as coaching, counseling on performance feedback, up to initiating and assisting with corrective action.
  • Prepare and maintain department budget.
  • Participate in multi-function site business teams and establish relationships and formal communication methods in order to ensure operational and improvement needs are prioritized and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment supplies and mill facilities in appropriate working condition to meet business needs.
  • Prepare timely reports for distribution to internal customers; maintain accurate records and files.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of company product, policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective and efficient production and manufacturing methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and supervisory methods.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively implement change.
  • Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Production or related field.
  • 5+ years' demonstrated manufacturing supervisory experience.
  • Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
