Alberta
Biodiversity Monitoring Institute conducts world-class biodiversity
monitoring of more than 2000 species and habitats to support decision-making
with scientific knowledge about provincial biodiversity. ABMI provides
knowledge to management agencies so that they can make informed decisions. The
ABMI is not a management agency itself and, as such, does not have a vested
interest in the outcome of decision-making processes.
Alberta Wilderness
Association - The Alberta Wilderness Association is a non-profit wilderness
advocacy/conservation group whose motto is "Protecting wild Alberta through
Awareness and Action." The AWA is the oldest active conservation group in the
province, as we celebrate our 31st year of existence. We achieve our goals
through lawful means.
Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation -
Granting entity that provides funding support to conservation initiatives that
contribute to healthy and sustainable wild Atlantic salmon in the Atlantic
Provinces and Quebec.
BC Small Woodland Partnership Outreach
- The Small Woodland Partnership (SWP) is comprised of a diverse cross section
of forestry organizations, each with a specific focus for small woodland
owners. The SWP recognizes the diversity of landowners and in doing so have
come together to provide an extension of the SWP resources.
Blue Lake Forest Education Society is
a non-profit organization that focuses on providing quality outdoor education
and recreation opportunities through an outdoor camp setting. It officially
opened in 1977, but has been in operation since 1974.
The
Boreal Forest Network is an
organization of environmentalists, indigenous peoples and scientists concerned
with the protection and sustainable use of the boreal forest. Web-site includes
information on the Winnipeg, Manitoba based organization, the mission, methods
and projects.
British Columbia Community Forest
Association (BCCFA) - is a network of rural, community-based organizations
in BC that are engaged in community forest management, as well as those seeking
to establish community forests.
The
Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA)
is a nationally registered charity that was established in 1983. The main goals
of the organization are to promote the establishment of a comprehensive system
of protected areas --- representative of Canada's terrestrial and marine
ecosystems. The CCEA is largely a science based organization. It works with
many jurisdictions across Canada to achieve these national goals.
Canadian Ecology Centre - A
centre for environmental learning and eco-tourism. A place of mutual discovery
where the environmentally concerned and the natural resource sector come
together for the benefit of the forest.
The Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA)
is a non-profit, public interest organization established in 1970 to use
existing laws to protect the environment and to advocate environmental law
reforms.
Canadian Environmental Network
- For more than thirty years, the Canadian Environmental Network has been
facilitating networking between environmental organizations and others who
share its mandate - To Protect the Earth and Promote Ecologically Sound Ways of
Life. The RCEN works directly with concerned citizens and organizations
striving to protect, preserve and restore the environment, and to affect how
society thinks about environmental issues.
Canadian Forestry Association Since
its beginnings, the CFA has worked to promote understanding and cooperation in
the protection and wise use of Canada's forest, water and wildlife resources.
Entering its second century of service to Canadians, programs continue to be
guided by the original mission to promote healthy attitudes towards forestry
through public education.
The
Canadian Interagency Forest Fire
Centre (CIFFC) provides operational fire-control services, as well as
management and information services to its Member Agencies. In addition to
coordinating services for all of the provinces and territories, CIFFC often
coordinates the sharing of resources with the United States and other
countries. Our Website provides the public with information about the Centre
and our activities. It also contains a link to FireWire, our online fire
reporting system, which provides up-to-the-minute bulletins, situation reports,
and firestart and spread data for our Member Agencies and other firefighting
organizations.

Canadian Model
Forest Network
The Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF)
established in 1992 is a non-profit community-based organization dedicated
to achieving sustainable forestry through broad-based partnerships. As a member
of both the Canadian Model Forest Network and the International Model Forest
Network, EOMF takes a long term view of sustainability and that we must work
together towards the concept of "A Forest for Seven Generations".
Foothills
Research Institute is a unique community of partners dedicated to
providing practical solutions for stewardship and sustainability of our forest
lands. The Foothills Research Institute has three principle partners/sponsors
who represent the agencies with vested land management authority for the land
base covered by the Model Forest. Fundy Model Forest is one
of 11 model forests across Canada dedicated to sustainable forest management.
This 420,000 ha Acadian Forest is in southeastern New Brunswick. One of the
main focuses of the 31 partner groups of the FMF has been the development of an
Integrated Resource Planning process which crosses multiple land
ownerships. The
Lake Abitibi Model Forest is a 1 094 690
hectare area located north of Iroquois Falls and East of Cochrane. It is in the
Northeast corner of the province of Ontario, bordering the province of Quebec.
Manitoba Model Forest

the water. We must look after those that nurture life - the fire, the earth,
the water, and the air. We must find the balance" In principle, this is the
Manitoba Model Forest. Sustaining a balance in forest
management. McGregor Model Forest is one of ten
Canadian Model Forests set up under the Federal Government of Canada to help
support the shift in the management of Canada's forests from sustained yield to
sustainable development. Sustainability requires us to manage our forest
resources in ways that will ensure their future productivity and diversity
while satisfying our economic, social and environmental values.

Albert Model Forest - We are a diverse partnership who envision vibrant,
resource-based communities where local people are equipped with the capacity to
work together to engage in informed decision-making and implement actions that
build economic diversity and foster sustainability for future generations.

providing for appropriate levels of commercial timber extraction.

Federation of Alberta Naturalists - The Federation
was born in 1970 when six Alberta naturalists clubs came together and struck a
new provincial society. Today FAN is a dynamic network of 42 clubs with upwards
of 5,000 members participating in the study, enjoyment, and conservation of
wild Alberta.
The
Federation of British Columbia
Woodlot Associations (FBCWA) was founded in 1988. It represents woodlot
associations, individual woodlot licensees, and small private woodland owners
throughout BC. Our membership plays an important role in rural British
Columbia. Woodlot operators in our associations contribute stability and
leadership within their communities, create local employment, produce a wide
variety of products from the forest, offer environmental protection, and
generate additional landscape values from the pride they take in their
operations.
The Forest Action Network (FAN) is a
grassroots organization with a network of over 500 forest activists and
twenty-two organizations throughout British Columbia, North America and Europe.
Since legal mechanisms to halt environmentally destructive logging in Canada
are weak and largely unenforceable, FAN has traditionally relied on widely
publicized direct action to both stop destructive logging directly, and to
create media opportunities to effectively articulate important ecological
principles.
Forest Genetics Council of British
Columbia is appointed by B.C.s chief forester to guide tree
improvement activities in the province.
Forest
Genetics Ontario is a forest stakeholder cooperative which promotes,
advocates for, and carries out genetic conservation, genetic resource
management, research, and technology transfer and information-sharing
activities. We do this by collaborating with the forest industry, government,
scientific and conservation communities, and others.
Forest Renewal Co-op is a grass roots
organization. Members of the Co-op are individuals and organizations who share
the goal of ensuring quality forest seedlings and proper plantation
establishment for the regeneration of tomorrow's forests. They include tree
seedling nurseries, forest products companies, silvicultural contractors,
allied supply companies, research organizations, universities and colleges from
across Canada.
Forest Stewardship Council - Canada is an
international non-profit organization founded in 1993 to support
environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable
management of the world's forests. FSC certification is internationally
recognized.
Forestry Co-operatives - BC
Institute for Co-operative Studies - The majority of this site is based
around the forestry sector and co-operative movement in the province of British
Columbia, but has been generalized and supplemented to provide an international
perspective.

Friends of
Caren Oldgrowth Forest and Marbled Murrelet Home Page - Friends of Caren is
a volunteer community organization whose purpose is to promote the
establishment of a shore to summit Park in the Caren Range on the Sunshine
Coast of B.C. The Caren Range contains the oldest recorded trees in Canada as
well as nesting habitat for the threatened marbled murrelet.
The
Friends of Fish Creek Provincial
Park Society is a not-for-profit stewardship society that works with park
staff to enhance the natural and cultural heritage of Fish Creek Provincial
Park, Canada's largest urban provincial park and natural area.
Friends of the Roxborough
Greenbelt - This site describes the efforts of friends of the Roxborough
Greenbelt to protect an urban forest in Sudbury, Ontario as a public natural
park, and invites others to help in this goal.
Greenpeace Canada - Greenpeace is an
independent not-for-profit campaigning organisation which uses non-violent,
creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems. We research
solutions and alternatives which are essential to a green and peaceful future.
Greenpeace's goal is to ensure the ability of the Earth to nurture life in all

International Institute for Sustainable
Development (IISD) - a non-profit organization established and supported by
the Governments of Canada and Manitoba. IISD's mandate is to promote
sustainable development in decision making within government, business and the
daily lives of individuals in Canada and internationally.
Manitoba Forestry
Association - Its mission is to inform and educate all Manitobans about
wise management of trees and forests as a vital part of the larger
ecosystem.
Montreal Process Working Group - The "Montreal Process Criteria
and Indicators" web site will provide up to date information on criteria and
indicators as they relate to the "Working Group on Criteria and Indicators for
the Conservation and Sustainable Management of Temperate and Boreal
Forests".
National Aboriginal Forestry Association
(NAFA) is a national organization which was created in 1989 by
forestry-minded Aboriginal people to advance the interests and needs of
Aboriginal communities, organizations, enterprises and individuals involved in
the forest sector. Forestry, particularly holistic and multiple-use forestry,
provides a natural avenue for Aboriginal economic development as well as an
opportunity to repair environmental degradation on Aboriginal lands and enhance
the cultural and spiritual health of Aboriginal communities.
Nature Canada is a member-based
non-profit conservation organization. Our network includes 40,000 supporters
and more than 350 naturalist organizations across Canada. Our mission is to
protect and conserve wildlife and habitats in Canada by engaging people and
advocating on behalf of nature.
Nature
Conservancy of Canada - For over 40 years, the Nature Conservancy of Canada
(NCC) has been working to protect Canadas most threatened natural
habitats and the endangered species that call them home. NCC is Canadas
only national charity dedicated to preserving ecologically significant areas
through outright purchase, donations and conservation easements.
North
Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance is a non-profit society whose purpose is to
protect and improve water quality and ecosystem functioning in the North
Saskatchew an River watershed in Alberta.
Ontario Forestry Association - The Ontario
Forestry Association is a non-profit, registered charity dedicated to raising
awareness and understanding of all aspects of Ontario's forests and developing
a commitment to forest conservation. Activities include forestry information
and education programs on forest wildfire prevention (Smokey Bear), private
woodlands, Trees Ontario, Project Tree Cover, National Forest Week, the Honour
Roll of Ontario Trees, Arbor Week, Envirothon and others.
Ontario Woodlot
Association - Since 1992, the OWA has brought woodlot owners together to
share ideas and learn about forest management. Through a Private Land Forestry
Code of Practice, we promote sustainable practices to help landowners realize
their own objectives as well as to ensure the environmental and financial
sustainability of these forests for future generations.
The Poplar Council of Canada (PCC) is a national non-profit
organization committed to the wise use, conservation and sustainable management
of Canada's poplar resource, which includes aspen and cottonwood. PCC, first
established in 1977, has members from industry, woodlot owners, universities,
research establishments and provincial and federal governments.
Private Forest Landowners Association - The
Private Forest Landowners Association (PFLA) represents owners of over 90 per
cent of the private Managed Forests in British Columbia. PFLA members include
individuals, companies and families. Over 60 per cent of the PFLA's membership
is comprised of owners with land under 250 hectares.

Saskatchewan Forestry
Association - The Saskatchewan Forestry Association is a not-for-profit
agency delivering forest education materials and programming to both schools
and the public at little or no cost to the end user. We provide a bias-balanced
component to our programming ensuring that we can deliver objective information
about the forest environment and current forestry issues. The site contains
information about the association, as well as information and resources useful
to both educators and the public.

(WCWC) is a registered non-profit environmental society with federal
charitable status working through research and education for the preservation
of wilderness in Canada and around the world. WCWC advocates and promotes
ecological principles that achieve sustainable communities. WCWC works only
through lawful means.
Wildlands League is a
charitable organization founded in 1968. The League is the Ontario Chapter of
the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS). The Wildlands League
promotes forest protection and sustainable forest management practices. It
supports the protection of wild places through the completion of a system of
ecologically representative protected areas while also promoting ecologically
centred resource use and planning.
The
Woodlot Association of Alberta
(WAA) is a non-profit organization lead by a volunteer board of directors.
The goal of our organization is to promote leadership in sustainable forest
management by increasing awareness of the forest's inherent social, economic
and environmental values through education and advocacy groups. The WAA issues
a quarterly newsletter to its membership, and monthly newsletter supplements.
Educational programs are organized and offered by the WAA, independently, or in
conjunction with other educational institutes. Programs are directed toward
providing members with the skills they need to manage their woodlots in the
manner appropriate to their lifestyles.
World Wildlife Fund Canada is dedicated to
saving life on Earth, through the conservation of nature and ecological
processes. Conserving biological diversity -- saving the wealth of large and
small pieces that make up our natural world --is essential to ensuring a
livable future for humans and all species. WWF's global
Forests for Life Campaign
recently released an assessment on Canada's progress toward its international
commitment to complete a network of forest protected areas by the year
